PROCEDURE

Before undergoing Buccal Fat Pad Removal surgery at Norwest Cosmetic Surgery, you will have two comprehensive consultations with Dr Senthil Supramaniam. During this consultation, Dr Senthil Supramaniam will explain the treatment, its mechanics, benefits, costs, as well as potential risks, complications, and the recovery process. You will have the opportunity to discuss your concerns and desired outcomes with Dr Senthil Supramaniam. Following your consultation, Dr Senthil will devise a customised treatment plan that suits you best. As per the guidelines you must have two consultation, 7 days following your second consultation with Dr Senthil Supramaniam you will be able to book in a surgery date.
 
Following your Buccal Fat Pad Removal Surgery surgical procedure with Dr Senthil Supramaniam, our post operative nurse will finish off by providing you with post-treatment instructions and schedule your dressing change and follow up appointment.

 

RISKS, COMPLICATIONS & RECOVERY

After undergoing Buccal fat pad removal surgery, there are certain pre & post operative instructions you must follow which include:

  • Avoid touching or cleansing the areas for 7 days following surgery

  • You will attend Norwest Cosmetic Surgery for your one week follow up

  • Limit physical activity and exposure to excessive heat and UV light for 2-6 weeks.

  • Sleep with your head elevated using several pillows or a recliner for at least 2 to 3 days to reduce swelling. Minimise talking and chewing for 48 hours and follow a soft diet during this time.

  • Take prescribed pain medication or Panadol for pain relief as instructed. Avoid other pain relievers that can thin the blood and cause bleeding or bruising unless specifically instructed by your primary care doctor.

  • Asymmetry in facial appearance, bleeding, cardiac and pulmonary complications, fluid accumulation, hematoma formation, infection, salivary duct injury, temporary facial muscle weakness, changes in sensation or numbness, persistent pain, poor incision healing, the need for revision surgery, prolonged swelling, and the potential for suboptimal aesthetic outcomes.

  • The downtime and recovery period for buccal fat removal can vary from person to person, swelling, bruising and discomfort generally lasts between 3-7 days but may last up to 6 weeks. You can return normal daily activities within 1-2 weeks after surgery.
