Morpheus8 - The Ultimate Guide

RENEWING TIRED SKIN USING MORPHEUS8

Morpheus8 is a device optimising facial rejuvenation technology in treatments lasting little more than half an hour. It does this by bringing together two of the most widely used and trusted skin treatment innovations: microneedling and radiofrequency resurfacing. During treatment, Morpheus8 uses atomised radio frequencies.

These tiny yet powerful radio waves pass via a tiny needle deep into the layers of the epidermis. The action signals the body to boost its production of elastin proteins and collagen, producing an improved appearance of the skin with long lasting results without the need for surgical intervention.

Morpheus8 has an array of skin conditions it improves, from loose jowl skin to facial lines and scarring. Microneedling with radiofrequency effectively treats aggressive acne, smoothing and tightening the skin to improve the appearance of scarring.

The Morpheus8 can also improve overexposure to the elements, wrinkles and stretch marks. It can even help people with hyperhidrosis reduce the production of excessive moisture in just a few sessions.

WHAT IS MORPHEUS8, AND WHAT DOES IT DO?

Morpheus8 is a device used to remodel the subdermal adipose of the face or the body. The device combines microneedling and radiofrequency to achieve the required results. The treatment is minimally invasive, with adjustable pin depths up to 7mm depending on the target area of the face or body.

Morpheus8 has many applications and may use 12, 24 or 40 pins to administer the treatment. For small areas such as the upper lip, the selection would be 12 pins. However, for larger areas such as the stomach or thighs, 40 pins is a better selection.

Microneedling is a successful cosmetic procedure that is safe and effective in treating various skin conditions such as acne, scars, stretch marks, and wrinkles. Microneedling seeks to cause a healing reaction in the skin by damaging the layers beneath the surface. In reaction to this, the body creates collagen. Collagen plumps and rejuvenates the skin, giving it a more youthful appearance.

When microneedling combines with fractional radiofrequency (controlled thermal energy), as with Morpheus8, the treatment results are more significant than with microneedling alone.

WHY DOES MORPHEUS8 USE RADIOFREQUENCY?

Only in the past decade did it become clear that two things largely influence the appearance of skin. Collagen in the reticular dermis was one factor influencing the appearance of skin. The other influencer is the fibro septal network connecting the skin to the superficial fascia and muscles.

In tests, exposing the subcutaneous tissue to radiofrequency (controlled thermal energy) for three seconds caused a reduction in the area by 42%. We can deduce from this that in addition to instigating a healing process using microneedling, the skin is further tightened by thermal heating of the reticular dermis using radiofrequency.

Furthermore, when skin temperatures reach 40° to 45°C, new blood vessel formation, elastin, and collagen occur, resulting in skin rejuvenation.

Therefore a combination of microneedling and fractional radiofrequency could give a more pronounced improvement than microneedling alone. And thus, Morpheus8 was born.

By coagulating several small spots ranging from 100 microns to 0.5 millimetres in size, this procedure designed to be tolerable, with minimal downtime is, low risk of side effects, and rapid skin healing.

WHAT AREAS CAN I HAVE TREATED WITH MORPHEUS8?

Morpheus8 is effective in many areas of the body and face. Morpheus8 Prime and Morpheus8 Body Handpieces provide enhanced treatment capabilities by catering to smaller or more extensive treatment areas, respectively.

The variance in pin depth from 0.5mm to 7mm enables light to deeper tissue treatment, and the quantity of pins per head also plays a role. So, for example, treatment of small curved areas such as the upper lip would use the twelve pin head. A more extensive area, such as the thighs, would be more effectively treated with the forty pin head. Morpheus8 resurfacing uses 24 pins at a superficial depth.

Areas where the subdermal layer is closer to the surface, such as bony areas, require only a small needle depth. A longer pin more accurately targets the subdermal adipose layer in soft body areas.

Morpheus8 Body utilises Burst mode radiofrequency technology to deliver energy to multiple depths in a single treatment. Burst mode allows for sequential targeting of tissue at three different levels, with millisecond intervals between each level. Using Burst mode results in reduced treatment times, less skin damage, improved treatment consistency, and the ability to perform personalised full body procedures.

ARE MORPHEUS8 TREATMENTS PAINFUL?

One of the design features of the Morpheus8 is its ability to deliver minimally invasive treatment, thereby minimising discomfort. Depending on the treatment area and pin depth, there is a possibility of experiencing mild discomfort. Any discomfort is temporary and will dissipate following treatment.

Microneedling stimulates collagen production, improving its texture without causing significant damage to the surface layer. It does this by stimulating an inflammatory response that promotes healing and regeneration while protecting the outer layer of the skin.

Inflammation and the inflammatory response are the root cause of all pain.

As Morpheus8 uses the inflammatory response to stimulate rejuvenation at the subdermal level, it's possible to feel some discomfort during treatment. However, designed as a minimally invasive treatment, any discomfort should be minimal and short lived. As inflammation dissipates, so too does the associated discomfort.

Dermatological treatment with Morpheus8 is generally well tolerated, but topical anesthesia can be beneficial for some treatment areas. A local anaesthetic may also be helpful where treatment areas are susceptible to pain.

The treatment area determines the amount of energy delivered, the frequency of sessions, the duration between sessions, and the required downtime. Post-procedure pain and thermal recovery are directly related to the energy delivered.

WHAT HAPPENS DURING THE TREATMENT

The treatments are minimally invasive and designed not to cause undue pain. The microneedles are surgically graded and therefore designed especially for this type of treatment.

Morpheus8 works equally well on all skin tones and poses fewer risks than more traditional laser treatments, which can cause hyperpigmentation or scarring. Depending upon several factors, sessions may last thirty to sixty minutes, involving three to six sessions.

After the first treatment, when the initial blush colour has calmed, there is a noticeable improvement in the softness and smoothness of the whole treated epidermis. The skin may feel a little dehydrated, but the procedure has a shorter downtime than other treatments, so you can usually get back to your regular activities as soon as the session is over!

Although the treatment permanently changes the subdermal layers of the skin, Morpheus8 cannot stop the aging process. Lifestyle, diet, hobbies, exposure to the elements, stress and environmental factors will also impact the skin. Morpheus8 will not impede the usual renewal of the skin. Even when the sessions are over, annual treatments are necessary to slow down the rate at which the skin would otherwise naturally age.

WHAT CONDITIONS CAN MORPHEUS8 TREAT?

Because Morpheus8 is so versatile, it is suitable for many face and body conditions.

Morpheus8 effectively treats skin laxity, rejuvenation, acne, cellulite, hyperhidrosis, scars, wrinkles, stretch marks and rosacea.

As a rejuvenation treatment, Morpheus8 is appropriate for younger patients who exhibit signs of ageing that do not require surgery and for patients who have had surgery but experience recurring signs of ageing.

For those who have already undergone a surgical procedure to lift or rejuvenate, Morpheus8 can act as an adjunctive therapy. Facial surgical procedures, apart from repositioning skin and soft tissue, do not boost the concentration of elastin or improve the tightening of collagen fibres. Morpheus8 is effective in rejuvenating skin at the subdermal level, thereby enhancing the results of previous surgical interventions.

Morpheus8 treatments are popular with a wide demographic, including males and females, young and old. Outcomes vary depending on variables such as age, health, treatment area, and tolerance to the treatment.

One to three treatments are usually effective. Research indicates that ten weeks after treatment, there is a significant increase in reticular dermal volume, hyaluronic acid, and elastin content, indicating active dermal remodelling.
